Georgina Hamshaw from Edinburgh Research and Innovation is running a lunchtime seminar next Wed (14th Oct 2009) on Scotbis. According to the Scotbis website, they are:
SCOTBIS (Scottish Business Information Service) provides a research service for businesses across Scotland.
SCOTBIS is based on the vast resources of the National Library of Scotland. At NLS you can access market research reports, business databases, international directories, and business and trade journals.
Sounds like anyone doing opportunity/market assessment might be interested! I’ve never heard of them before, so if anyone does go and want to volunteer a roundup post, then please let me know. More details below.
On Wednesday 14th October we are running a short lunchtime seminar to talk about the market research facilities that are available to you through Scotbis. This ranges from industry specific market research reports, to trawls for news articles/ press releases etc, to company specific financial information.
SCOTBIS is part of the National Library of Scotland, and users have access to the largest collection of business material of its kind in Scotland. Among 13 million items at the National Library of Scotland, there are:
- One of the most extensive collections of market research reports in the world.
- 16 business databases.
- Over 1,000 business directories.
- Over 1,200 business and trade journals.
If you are looking to source data on your competitors, find information that relates to your industry segment, indentify decision makers within firms, then Scotbis may be able to help you. If they can’t, then there is every likelihood that they will know who can. Many of their services are free to Scottish Businesses. Others that carry a charge are priced so as not to be prohibitive.
John Coll from Scotbis will be presenting a general introduction to their business information services, and will be available to answer your questions. Please come along and see how Scotbis can work for you. Please respond to Stephanie Ashford if you intend to attend, or require any further information.
WHEN: Wednesday 14 October
TIME: 1215 for a 1230 start. The seminar should finish by 1330.
