Blackford Analysis, the University of Edinburgh spinout making a huge difference to 3D medical imaging, is now ready to expand the team and is on the lookout for a software engineer. Ben Panter is awesome and it always cheers me up to see him at events, so if you’re someone who ‘lives and breathes programming’, I certainly encourage you to check this out and spread the word.
So, what does Blackford Analysis do?
Blackford Analysis provides real-time solutions for big data problems. We solve tough computation problems involving real-time interpretation of 3D medical images, hyper-spectral reconnaissance imagery and seismic datasets. Our technology comes from astrophysics, and exploits commodity hardware with low power requirements. Our initial product aligns medical scans instantly, enabling an increase in radiologist throughput of 10%.
Why are you guys awesome?
We’ve got drive and ambition, and a proven technology to build on. Our initial product roadmap is clear, and there is a pipeline of applications for the future.
What position are you hiring for?
We’re hiring a software engineer, although there is potential for the scope of the role to grow as the company develops if a suitable candidate is identified.
Who would be the ideal candidate?
We’re looking for someone who lives and breathes programming, and has a deep and varied knowledge of multiple platforms, languages and concepts. The essential skills are an excellent grounding in C/C++ and windows, but experience of .net, java and CUDA would also be helpful.
The successful candidate will be a self-starter who has worked in teams before – potentially someone who has taken an active part in a big OSS project. Industry experience isn’t necessary, but would be of considerable advantage.
How about logistics – start date, salary, etc?
We’ve filled our first tranche of investors, and are well on the way with a SMART award and Seed Fund application. The company is incorporated, and we hope to begin day to day operations within a month. We’d be looking at a start date that is as soon as possible, and paying a salary on the level of a good graduate job, enhanced by stock options.
Wow, how do I apply?
