Ok details added… Holler if I missed anything else!
Tuesday 28th Sept: Dorkbot Alba, 8pm at the new Edinburgh Hacklab
A fornightly-ish get-together for creative hardware tinkering and learning. If you’re coming for the first time, we advise you to sign up to our mailing list, just to say hello and check we’re meeting in the usual place.
Tuesday 28th Sept: Scottish Usability Association meetup, see comment below!
What is everyone working on? Hear from a mix of folks with new ideas or companies underway, and let’s see what feedback we can offer to help them sort out plans, evaluate opportunities, or reach particular markets. Want to share your own project or idea? Drop an email to entrepreneurship@ed.ac.uk by 2pm Tuesday with a simple 2-3 sentence explanation of what you’re up to and what feedback you’re looking for from the audience. Bring your thinking caps and supportive vibes! Oh yeah, and free wine.
Wednesday 29th September: jclouds at Cloudsoft (well, nearby), 6:30pm at Appleton Tower 8th Floor
Please join jclouds first event in Edinburgh two floors above the Cloudsoft office, starting at 6:30pm on Wednesday evening. The agenda includes a brief review of jclouds APIs such as BlobStore and ComputeService in Java and clojure, and how employing these help you avoid cloud vendor lock-in while at the same time improving testability. Finally, we’ll show how you can use jclouds to cloud-power tools such as the Infinispan datagrid, Hudson, Hadoop, and Cassandra. Many thanks to Cloudsoft for providing the opportunity, venue, and of course, the drinks!
Wednesday 29th September: JUGS – Intro to Scala, 6:30pm at Appleton Tower 6.01 (6th floor)
Java User Group last-wednesday-of-the-month meeting which this month is a joint meeting with ScalaScotland. The talk is an introduction to Scala and will be in room 6.01.
Thursday 30th September: Tricks of PR & Marketing, 6:30pm at Apex Waterloo
A nice free event from JCI that caught my eye, might help you too… Turn the heat up on your image by Sarah Lee of Hot Tin Roof. Come along and learn how to make you, your company or an organisation you are involved with front page news. There are thousands of companies out there, so how do you make yours stand out from the crowd? How do you persuade journalists to write about you, your company/organisation? Email links@jciedinburgh.org.uk to RSVP.
Friday 1st October: Edinburgh Coffee Morning, 8am at Centotre (George Street)
As usual you’ll find a lovely bunch of digital media, social media, and just generally fun folks chatting away and making new friends. The best way to start your Friday, and well worth the early arrival (you can trickle in 8-9am if that helps).
Dang, it’s October already?!?!?!….
The Scottish Usability Association also has a meetup on Tuesday the 28th. The topic this month is Agile and Usability.
