Each week, we’ll be interviewing a member of the Startup community to find out about their deepest, darkest secrets! We’ll be profiling developers, as well as CEOs – so no one is safe! This week, Hamish (see photo) has agreed to be our willing victim.
We met Hamish back in the old iCUE days when he was Managing Director (ah, back when the economy was still booming). He is the MD of Robertson Technologies, which was setup during his final year at Edinburgh University, specialising in online data backup , but soon expanded to computer support. Robertson Tech has grown in the past four years and is now being franchised nationwide. Hamish would like to hear from anyone with sales ability who dreams of running their own profitable computer support company.
Whats your Startup/Business? Robertson Technologies
Give us your company culture in 3 words: honesty, quality and being fun to work with
Whats the next big challenge or hurdle that the company has to overcome? Expanding the franchise nationwide.
In one sentence, what’s the personal dream? Move to a huge house in the country with lots of land and run my businesses from the tranquility of the Scottish countryside.
What do you do for stress relief? Sport (squash, cycling, mountain biking, golf, surfing, football, gym)
Your favourite ‘skint’ meal? Salad and fish
How to you celebrate milestones or awards? Champagne, snackies and a night in with my wife.
What’s your biggest guilty pleasure? I’m too embarrassed to say!
And the coolest event you’ve been to? Dream Theater in London
Name a Quirky fact about yourself: I started going white haired when I was 24.
Give the choice, would you prefer ...
i) Truth or Dare? Truth
ii) Carrot or Stick Stick
iii) Tea or Coffee? Tea
“And the coolest event you’ve been to? Dream Theater in London”
THIS MAN HAS IMPECCABLE TASTE! 😀
Why is that not a surprise that you said that?
[…] for the Apprentice Edinburgh competition run by iCUE (along with last week’s interviewee Hamish coincidentally), but luckily we didn’t ask him about any regrets! Fraser runs loads of tea […]
I have had dealings with roberston technologies and their attitude towards us was terrible, we have since moved to a much better””Virtual IT Department” I Would hold your dream Hamish as the service we remember (which is very recent) was terrible, your staff (allocated engineer, who was different everytime) did not have a clue about our system and we lost email and important call centre software. For your dream to come true I would suggest you try a more hands on approach as even though I knew you were in the office your PA would tell me otherwise. I could even hear you in the background saying you were not onsite?
Well done with the awards but I am sure, as you know, awards are everywhere and become nothing more than another trophy logo on your business cards and website.
I hope the other terrotories you have secured have a better support system in place.
Dear Anon
Thank you for your comment.
I’m sorry you had a bad experience with robertson technologies. We endeavor to give the best service we can and I’m sorry to hear your experience didn’t live up to that.
Please do get in touch and we will work with you to rectify the situation.
Kind regards
Hamish
