Our entertainment this week comes from jam boy Fraser Doherty, a humourous and inspiring entrepreneur with jam in Waitrose, ASDA, Tesco, my fridge, and beyond. Thanks to him, I woke up craving rhubarb & ginger this morning and tend to put jam on any snack possible.
We met Fraser back in Feb ’08 when he joined us as a judge for the Apprentice Edinburgh competition run by iCUE (along with last week’s interviewee Hamish coincidentally), but luckily we didn’t ask him about any regrets! Fraser runs loads of tea parties for lonely elderly folks as well, which are always a hoot, and volunteers are being lined up for a big bash on 13th August if you’re in the mood.
What’s your startup/business? SuperJam – we sell 100% fruit jams to the major supermarkets.
Give us your company culture in 3 words: fun, ethical, commercial.
What’s the next big challenge or hurdle the company needs to overcome? Taking on the best talent to grow the business into new products and countries.
In one sentence, what’s the personal dream? To get to the end of my life and be able to say truly that I am proud of what i’ve done – to feel that i’ve done all that I could have done.
And the professional dream? To build one of the leading jam brands in the world.
What do you do for stress relief? I spend a lot of time with friends and go for long walks when i’m trying to make tough decisions.
Your favourite ’skint’ meal? Fish & chips.
How do you celebrate milestones or awards? Usually with a party (scones and jam and maybe champagne).
What’s your biggest guilty pleasure? (hmmm… didn’t get any confessions here)
And the coolest event you’ve been to? The Global Student Entrepreneur of the Year Awards – apart from the excitement of winning the award, I made some friends who have great businesses. One makes software for McDonald’s and another runs the seventh fastest growing company in Canada.
Name a quirky fact about yourself: I recently applied to live in a disused pub.
Given the choice, would you prefer…
i) Truth or Dare? Truth
ii) Carrot or Stick? Carrot
iii) Tea or Coffee? Coffee
I like this. Very fun to learn about a business this way.
And I fricking love the jam. I got three jars as a corporate gift, and now I’m out! Terribly disheartened and dispirited without them.
Great to see StartupCafe interviewing celebrities!!!
@Iain – let us know if you have any suggestions for future victims 😉
[…] 250 through the process. Last year’s winners were StartupCafe favorites Fraser Doherty (Superjam) and Amanda Jones […]
I was recommended this web site via my cousin. I am not positive whether or not this submit is written via him as nobody else recognise such exact about my difficulty.
You’re wonderful! Thank you!
