At this special Mobile Monday event, MoMo Edinburgh is holding a series of short pitches by companies wishing to represent the group at the Global Peer Awards in Barcelona in February, followed by a series of short demos showcasing the capabilities of the companies involved. Will be lots of cool stuff being demonstrated. Looks like tickets are sold out, but you may be able to squeeze in if there are no shows.
Elevator Networking Event: Monday 30th Nov, 6:30pm at Why Not Nightclub (George St)
A free business networking club for folks 18-30 years old, these events are pitched at young entrepreneurs and people who are considering setting up their own businesses. The event is put on by Shell LiveWIRE and PSYBT, and I’ve heard good reviews from folks who have attended. They tend to be relaxed and social, and about 60 people go along. No need to RSVP, just show up.

2 Proof of Concept spinout projects are the focus of this Business Forum event, which will feature Jamie Graves of Digital DNA and Jane Queenan & Dr Paul Henderson of Roadside Drug Testing Device. It normally costs £30 to attend, but Launch.ed is offering 3 free spots! Email stephanie.ashford@ed.ac.uk to see if you can still get a free place.

The talk and Q&A will go 6:30-8pm, and then wine and crisps afterward. No RSVP needed, just join in.
Edinburgh Jelly Casual Co-Working: Thursday 3rd Dec, 10am-1pm at a private home in North Edinburgh
Tired of working alone in your flat or office? Want some more creative minds to bounce off of as you work? The new ‘jelly’ casual co-working style comes to Edinburgh with the first event taking place this week. A brave host in north Edinburgh will be opening her flat to the group, and there is space for 11 folks to join in. Sign up here if you are up for the randomness (and add your name here if you can manage)… it should be entertaining, I’m looking forward to it.

Speaker: Gavin Dutch and Mark Westwater
Venue: Scottish Enterprise, Apex House, 99 Haymarket Terrace, Edinburgh, EH12 5HD

He will show examples of good and bad designs and show the differences between the ‘desktop’ and ‘mobile’ web. Finally, he will address the apps vs. mobile sites debate.
Gavin will pick up on the mobile sites versus apps debate exploring the merits of each choice, the current market place and taking a look into the compromise, the hybrid app. He will then delve deeper into user experience considerations applicable to app design and provide an overview of the Edinburgh Festivals Guide iPhone app to illustrate some of the choices and how they were made…. Cool, thanks guys.
Think Rosie is on holiday at the moment, so while she usually handles registration, not sure what the best protocol is for booking now… an email I got said just turn up, but maybe that wasn’t meant to be a general instruction, ha. Say you’re with StartupCafe and hopefully nobody will mess with you.
And hadn’t heard about the UPA event with Gav and Mark, that’s great!
The Elevator email I got was “just turn up and bring a friend if you like” as well — it’s usually RSVP, maybe they’re trying something new to increase turnout…
