For this week, our latest 60 second interviewee/victim is Joe Halliwell – director and co-founder at Winterwell Associates.
Joe has worked in a variety of businesses from blue-chip corporate services to hi-tech start-ups in mobile communications and robotics. He studied Mathematics and Philosophy at Oxford University followed by an MSc and PhD in Artificial Intelligence at the University of Edinburgh. Joe co-founded Winterwell Associates in 2008 to help organisations of all sizes use AI tools and techniques to gain insight, cut costs and develop innovative products and services.

In one sentence, what’s the personal dream? Oh, the usual transhumanist stuff: immortality (for all), space migration, friendly AI…
What do you do for stress relief? For the head: break things down, make plans. For the heart: beer. That is my warrior-monk technique.
Your favourite ‘skint’ meal? Baked potato with beans (and cheese, if ‘skint’ allows for such fiscal abandon)
How to you celebrate milestones or awards? By asking, “what’s next?” This is probably unhealthy.
What’s your biggest guilty pleasure? The biggest guilt for the least pleasure: cigarettes.
And the coolest event you’ve been to? A rainy “Hey You Get Off My Pavement” in Glasgow
Name a Quirky fact about yourself: I sported a nipple ring for about 6 months in the mid-nineties.
