There’s a new group on the town, and this one’s all about gathering talented people from different backgrounds and getting things done together. What better cause could you ask for? Initiated by Sam Collins and Hasan Veldstra, I just love the sound of this group and certainly encourage you to go along if you want to make cool stuff happen! The next meeting is tomorrow 15th May at 12pm at the Outhouse (12a Broughton Street Lane). His invitation below!
Hi all,
Tomorrow we’re going to meet again to have another Royal Society of Hackers, Designers and Watchmakers. In short, this “Royal Society” is just a chance for anyone who’s working on side projects, or wants to get involved on some projects to come along and work together in the the ace little web/tech community we have here. It’s not just for hackers, but also designers, product people, whoever really.
We’ve got a great space with free wifi, coffee, tables, chairs, and no public annoyances so we can just hack together some cool stuff. If you’re working on side projects, or just want to work together with others, please come along – it’d be great to hang out.
See you there.
Sam.
p.s. venue here: upstairs room in the Outhouse, Edinburgh.
I was about to add a comment to say where the hell are all the other girls, but Jess has just arrived. Excellent.
But honestly, can girl geeks really complain, when they don’t support these sort of groups? I’m not even a geek, I’m just trying to geekify myself up….
Can women still complain about glass ceilings, when they don’t take a more active interest in technology – considering the impact it has on the world?
Of course it’s never just about female geeks, designers or product managers rocking up for the sake of it (firm believer in talent over equality), but it would be nice to see a few more women working these tech circles… because they love the territory, rather than prove a point.
Thanks,
Rachel
Ps: I know the women connected to Start-Up Cafe work very hard and network hard, but even with the friendly chaps at these meet-ups, it’s still intimating to be in the minority.
