The advent calendar chocolates are all gone now, which can only mean one thing… Merry Christmas!! Ok, it could also mean I got hungry mid-month, but I’ve been good this year [Santa, take note].
Hmmm that brings me to thinking about the presents under the tree this morning, both for me and from me. Anything notable you’ve been secretly or not-so-secretly hoping for? If you’re still pulling together some final presents, or if you have any IOU slips to cash in on, I’ll share some of my favourite geeky finds & requests this year for inspiration.
My Geeky Christmas Wish List
I really struggle to get photos uploaded from my camera in a timely manner… how awesome to have a card that uploads them as you go! Perhaps a needless expense for the ultra-organised, but a great convenience for the rest of us. I went to get one of these as a gift this week and I nearly walked out of the store with 10 of them (I promise I’m not a sales rep or on commission, haha). Curious to see if it’s as good as it sounds!
2. Camera… no, BlackBerry, not you…
My phone has become my default camera, which is perfect for Twitter/Facebook but not brilliant for printing or playing around with. After being emailed a series of BlackBerry pics, my dad thinks it’s time I upgraded back to a real digital camera… so I won’t argue! I’m debating what to go for but have my eye on something like the Samsung ES70 – I’m liking the handy product reviews on TestFreaks as I narrow it down. Will try to decide soon, and maybe I’ll get some good pics at CES next month! That’s how you’ll know if I’m successful.
Who needs dance moves when you can have a sexy rave shirt that lights up to the music?! I’m not sure how I survived this long with a non-luminous wardrobe, but have a look if you want to be the life of the partay – they put the “sheek” in geek. Or something like that. I want to give one of these to everyone I know!
If I could reclaim all the time I’ve spent untangling headphone cables, I might not have a year-long holiday but I’d get back some very frustrating and tedious minutes. A while back my step-mom suggested retractable headphone cables as an invention, and sure enough we found she was not the only one with this in mind. Here’s one less thing to detangle – hallelujah! Special mention to these volume nob novelty earphones which just crack me up.
I’m a big fan of Speck when it comes to cases, but it might also be fun to get a phone skin personalised with a favourite photo or design. My dad’s iphone looks like it’s had a rough life, so I’m excited to give it a fresh facelift with a skin showing off his latest backpacking trip. I came across this company Wrappz on a recent Groupon, and I couldn’t resist giving it a shot…
Trying to text/email/dial on your touch screen phone while keeping your hands warm? Well, I have real buttons on my mobile, but these are on Kate’s list. My sister received a pair and is a big fan, and my dad nearly got these for Christmas too.

Anything fun/handy/geeky on your list this year? Or any interesting finds to share?! We’d love to hear! 🙂
[…] We round off the year by telling you about talking dirty, welcome the Guardian’s beatblogger to the Appleton Tower crew, list 3 tools to help non-programmers to program, get some sagely advice from Mr Williamson about the only reasons you would become an employee, then Jess rounds us off with a list of geeky presents that we would all like to get for Christmas. My spouse and I absolutely love your blog and find a lot of your post’s to be what precisely I’m looking for.
Does one offer guest writers to write content for you personally?
I wouldn’t mind publishing a post or elaborating on some of the subjects you
write related to here. Again, awesome blog!
I constantly spent my half an hour to read this weblog’s posts daily along with a cup of coffee.
