We encourage people to apply for the Saltire Fellowship, tell people about the Strategy Society’s first meeting, talk about BraveNewTalent raising £350k of funding, highlight the fight between MyPolice and HMIC.
Also in the news, Flamina from Theory Mine scoops the Scottish Institute of Enterprise (SIE) New Ventures prize – making Edinburgh University one of the most prolific winners of the prize, we launch our startups listing page and Jess is featured on the BBC!
April
We played a bit of an April Fools on our readers, get featured in a US radio show, Hubdub closes Hubdub to focus on Fanduel, Mr O gives us advice on getting the most out of exhibitions, the Java Users Group moves to Appleton Tower.
May
Startupcafe turns 1! May started with MoMoEdinburgh having a discussion on iPads and tablets, EIE 10 kicked off a big debate about the funding gap in the pipeline, Vibio closes a $1 million funding round, Jess scoops an interview with former SE Chief Exec – Jack Perry, we helped to host a rapid fire talks session at Barcamp Glasgow and get our first mention in the Edinburgh Guardian blog.
June
Hilary joins the startupcafe team full time! Ex-seedcampers prepare a new generation for the week of mayhem, we talk about 5 great iPad apps, Jess and Hilary goes to Launch48 weekend, Bela writes a poem about developers, Float launches, Vidiowiki shows us what happens in a day in a startup, we post our first humorous post.
July
We ran an afternoon of meetups for mobile venture capital company m8, new incubator Difference Engine comes up to Edinburgh, Stuart Roebuck picks a fight with o2, we become the main press/bloggers for the REE2010 event that Edinburgh University is hosting.
August
It’s national inventors month! Loc8 launches their Fringe app, Chris Muktar tells us about three thoughts for success, we write about the bio-fuel cars fuelled by whisky, Hilary redesigns the startupcafe logo, Interface3 announces that they have won a multitouch competition, Edinburgh Night Owls gets inspired by Vidiowiki, local startup is launched aimed at student designers.
Sept
We kick off with an article on how Edinburgh University has a record number of spinouts this year, REE 2010 takes up 3 days of our lives, the Edinburgh Hacklab opens, we write about Red Button Design’s new collaboration, we link sales and names together, and we round up with a ton of awesome guest posts from REE.
Oct
Local startup Freeagent wins the Scottish Software Satisfaction awards, we start telling you about Launch48, and then we explain it more, talk about how Mobiqa is acquired by NCR.
Nov
We feature Valley Girl – Jesse Draper! We report back from Launch48, Bela relays advice from one of the London Launch48 speakers, Theory Mine is the Glasgow Herald, a new initiative by iCUE called the Student Market is launched, FanDuel wins a Europa!
Dec
We round off the year by telling you about talking dirty, welcome the Guardian’s beatblogger to the Appleton Tower crew, list 3 tools to help non-programmers to program, get some sagely advice from Mr Williamson about the only reasons you would become an employee, then Jess rounds us off with a list of geeky presents that we would all like to get for Christmas.
