It’s with sadness that we’re reporting that the Hubdub team has decided to close their first product – news prediction site Hubdub – to focus on their second product – Fanduel. As Techcrunch reports here, Fanduel (which was launched around 6 months ago) has become a much more lucative opportunity for the 5-person team.
I have to confess, I did spend a substanial amount of time on Hubdub and am left missing my hubdub dollars. To give them a good send off, here are my three favourite prediction markets:
3. Which team will win Social Innovation Camp?
A bit of betting on a startup camp you’re taking part in?Nothing like a small wager …
2. Who will win the 2008 US Presidential Election?
Undoubtedly one of the most significant events to happen in our life time. We all wanted Barack to win, it was a close call for a while, but it all worked out.
1. Who will be the final cylon on Battlestar Galactica?
There are few times in life where I’ve felt like social media has really engaged with something that I truly cared about. And believe me, the identity of the final cylon is definitely one of them. In the end, I got the bet right (it was no one in the list), which just shows you how good the BSG writers are … and how much fun betting it was.
So, goodbye Hubdub. You’ve given us lots of fun!
