More Coffee? Could it Be?

The Edinburgh Entrepreneurship Meetup Group is kicking of a new coffee morning, 10am Thursdays at a rotating location. Just in case you aren’t getting your fix via Open Coffee Club, Edinburgh Coffee Morning, and the 8th Floor Appleton Tower non-stop coffee magic machine, it could be interesting to check this out tomorrow.

Thursday 25th February – 10am at Black Medicine in Marchmont.

For those of you who are interested in all things mobile, the regular Mobile Apps Group run by Informatics Ventures has been moved to 24th Feb.

There is no Mobile Apps Group meeting this week. This month, the Informatics Mobile Apps group is meeting in Inspace on Wednesday, 24 February at 18.30. We are putting together a panel of speakers to give their thoughts on what’s in store for 2010. (more…)

Social enterprise startup – Flock Local – is through to the National Finals in the John Logie Baird awards! They’re up for the Social Enterprise Innovator category and this is more surprising considering it was only two weeks ago that we blogged about FlockLocal launching into beta!

Best of luck to James and the rest of the Flock Local team. The award winners will be announced on 12th March.

A few months ago, I mentioned that the Guardian was hiring local beatbloggers. In particular, I was intrigued by why the Guardian picked Edinburgh, Cardiff and Leeds – it struck me that these cities didn’t have a whole lot in common.

Fast forward to a few months, and you will be interested to hear that the new blogger has started!

Oscar Wilde once said the only way to truly find and test reality is to put it on a tight rope. This is the life of an entrepreneur. The risk and the euphoria hand in hand at every stage.

Back in June, Social Innovation Camp descended on Glasgow and about 80 people took part in 48 hours of brainstorming, designing and developing a web apps for social good. One of the 6 ideas that were worked on – FlockLocal – has recently received UnLtd funding and launched its beta site!

Just a quick recap – the idea behind FlockLocal is to allow people to create flashmobs for social good. In a nutshell, low commitment volunteering opportunities. (more…)

Edinburgh startup Mobile Acuity has been shortlisted to present their visual search app at the Mobile Peer Awards (which is happening at the same time, but separately from, the Mobile World Congress) on 15th Feb. Mobile Acquity – in case you didn’t know – comprises of Anthony Ashbrook and Geoff Ballinger – and is based on the 6th floor of Appleton Tower. They (alongside others) run MoMoEdinburghCongratulations!

Alongside Anthony and Geoff’s product, is the 4ip backed Audioboo from London.
