I am amazed there are still tickets available. With free food and drinks aplenty, a keynote from Ian Ritchie, and a celebration of folks that are helping the open source community thrive, 20th November is sure to be an excellent night at the Informatics Forum.
The Scottish Open Source Awards are fast approaching, and if you’d like to be part of the excitement, you’d better claim your ticket asap. The awards themselves will recognise individuals and companies who have made important contributions to open source and who have successfully utilised open source code in their software. Originally slated to be part of the Scottish Software Awards, the Open Source Awards have persevered while the traditional software ceremony has been delayed until Spring. Kudos go to Sales Agility for hosting the evening, and to Informatics Ventures, Craneware, ScotlandIS and many others for sponsoring.
It was terrific to hear that Ian Ritchie will be speaking, as he is a very well respected name in the IT scene. As Chairman of iomart plc., Computer Application Services Ltd., Scapa Technologies Ltd., and Caspian Learning Ltd, I’m amazed he also finds time to be a Director of the Edinburgh International Science Festival, Edinburgh International Film Festival, and Our Dynamic Earth. Also cool to see that he was President of the British Computer Society ten years ago.
The event schedule looks pretty heavy on the food, booze, and networking, so don’t be put off if open source isn’t your niche. Festivities kick off at 6:30pm and run through til 9pm, with a pub extension inevitable at the end. There will be a great crowd to mingle with (list of attendees posted here) and you just may get sucked in. I don’t even code and I’m excited!
Did I mention tickets are FREE? Book here before they’re all claimed.
