The events schedule is calming down – thank goodness – but Wednesday is full of good options. You’ll wind up with free drinks (and maybe food too) no matter where you go! Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, you can actually get work done without worrying you’re missing out.
Glenfiddich Spirit of Scotland Awards: Tuesday 8th Dec
Can you see yourself on the awards programme for next year? A good list to aim for, the awards recognise Scotland’s best in a variety of areas from entrepreneurs to sports to music and arts. Last year’s winners include SuperJam’s Fraser Doherty, CoffeeLoop’s Peter Gregson, and Ewgeco’s Tanya Ewing. I’ll be crossing my fingers for Red Button Design in the environment category, and I’m torn between Vets Now and Purdie’s in the business lineup.
SuperJam Tea Party: Wednesday 9th Dec, 1:30-4pm at Jameson Place Sheltered Housing Community Lounge (just off Leith walk)
A successful Edinburgh startup + cute elderly people + more scones/jam than you’ve ever imagined… yes, a fun and random afternoon thatrestores a bit of perspective and that will probably make you feel more inspired when you get back to work. Giant tea parties are one way Fraser gives back to the community, and I’ve always had a blast helping out, serving scones, chatting with the guests and dancing with grandpas. Come along if you think this sounds entertaining and you’re up for helping.
MBM Festive Fizz: Wednesday 9th Dec, 5:30-8pm at MBM offices on Castle St
Law firm MBM Commercial is great at getting people together, and this week they’re gathering clients and friends together with fizzy drinks and nibbles. Think it’s primarily invite-based, but if you didn’t get an invite and want to join in, drop your name below and I’ll see if we can get you in =).
The Codebreakers – Enigma: Wednesday 9th Dec, 6:30pm at Informatics Forum
This British Computer Society event is sure to be exciting, with one of the most experienced speakers on the Enigma and WW2 codebreakers. The talk is free, drinks start from 6pm, and I’m not clear on registration details but I don’t think you need to sign up.
Edinburgh Tech Meetup: Wednesday 9th Dec, 6:30pm at Appleton Tower 8th Floor
A monthly must for anyone in the tech startup scene – developers, programmers, entrepreneurs, students, community members, and curious bystanders. A couple main speakers, some 5 minute talks, and lots of friendly chat. Plus there will be free pizza and beer =). No RSVP or tickets needed, it’s a very open and inviting bunch.
Christmas Quiz at EdCM: Friday 11th Dec, 8am at Centotre
Edinburgh Coffee Morning spices up the delightful Friday morning scene with a festive quiz – if you’ve never been before, join in the fun and show your seasonal expertise. There are loads of fun web 2.0 folks to meet.
Where are details on the SuperJam event? You just link to the homepage.
Yeah not seen the details online yet, sorry, just heard WOM. Will post tonight once I hear the venue!
Time is 1:30-4pm, and I think it’s in Leith.
Ok tea party details tracked down, sorry for the delay!
