We’ve recently been considering a logo revitalisation project. We’re testing the new look on our Twitter page now, but here’s a quick look at the new designs:
What do you think?
Loooove the logo, especially the red 😀 Well done 🙂
Red is best. Very nice.
Sorry to spoil to good comments but I think it needs work!
The short version is alright, but the rest are not easy to read and coffee cup placed above the ‘u’ is a weak attempt at having a logo design that is integrated. As a logo it needs work!
Here are some REALLY well integrated logos: http://creattica.com/logos/popular-this-year/
Although on the twitter page the text looks very nice (but make the green the whole background) and the coffe cup works well as a profile picture.
Hope you find the comment constructive!
I like the style but I think it has too many verticals, makes it seem busy and hard to read.
It also looks like an actual coffee shop sign, like a real bricks-and-mortar coffee shop. Is that what you actually want to convey?
Thanks for all the comments—they are extremely helpful.
I can ditto Jonathan’s recommendation for the above link. I’m not positive that all the logos there are for real companies, but there’s no doubt that they’re inspirational, clever designs.
Any more thoughts? Keep ’em coming.
I really like it! (though, not a fan of the shorter version SuP). I like its simplicity. I also like the coffee cup. It’s funny, we’ve had a picture of a coffee cup on our site since launch and nobody’s ever mentioned that it might not be appropriate given that we’re not an actual cafe!

One of my friends sent me an email to say he didn’t like it – “As for the new logo, I didn’t really like..too linear, appears too busy and the coffee cup seemed like an afterthought or a little irritating..as the guy said..might be good as a real coffee shop sign but don’t know if suitable for this” – (taken from the email)

It’s good to get different points of view though and constructive criticism is necessary. I’m too close to see properly. Like Hilary says, keep ’em coming!
It’s important to get a sense of an organisation’s Identify with their logo. The image of a cup of coffee and even the title Start up Cafe may appear unclear.
I don’t think people want to guess what you are about.
The faster you hit them with what you are, the greater the impact.
Sabia, totally agree. Any specific ideas about what sort of imagery would work best?
Hmmm interesting to see the feedback, thanks guys! I loved the red version, but nice to open the brainstorm.
Personally I’m a fan of having the logo look like a cafe sign in one way or another… We part joke part dream of opening a cafe one day where startups can bask in coffee and cupcake goodness…
In the absence of a real cafe existing here for startups, we try to be a friendly unifying place for people to virtually put up notices, swap stories, and have conversations.
…any funky ideas to represent that? 🙂
I liked this article about Logo design in Mashable:

That should give you some leads.
