Anyone snowed in today with a cup of tea? Well get your boots and gloves ready – there are some events this week worth braving the crazy weather for! In case you didn’t notice, I must also confess a mild obsession with holiday festivals, and have slipped in a couple of the local lights celebrations too 🙂
GO! >> We have invited the inspiring speaker and current Edinburgh University Entrepreneur-in-Residence to Heidi Roizen to our Launch Lab meetup!! Heidi is a Silicon Valley executive, venture capitalist, and entrepreneur, but most of all, she talks openly about the real and human elements of building a successful business from nothing. The trails and tribulations, the good times and bad, Heidi will be attending our Launch Lab sessions to answer any of your questions about the real life, every day exicting (and terrifying) world of business. And trust us, she’s well worth a visit!
The Technology Strategy Board (TSB) is investing up to £5m in collaborative R&D projects looking to create tools that make the production of content, such as film, music and computer games, more cost-effective, less risky and yield greater value through new advanced uses of metadata. Might this be your bag? Do you know how to get your hands on it? … Simon Hopkins, our Metadata Theme Champion will host the event and Jeremy Silver from the TSB will provide an in-depth look at the competition, the aims and objectives of the competition, the type and scale of projects and how the judging works. Other speakers will talk about the exciting business opportunities offered by metadata plus a case study from a business that has been successful in a previous TSB funding competition.
Lauriston Place/Tollcross – not sure what the neighborhood festivities here entail… anyone been before?
The coolest and most secret new group in town! Monthly events will feature 3 speakers on absolutely anything, so long as it’s interesting, so you can stretch your mind and meet neat people from all sorts of fields. The inaugural event will consist of three artistes each giving a twenty-minute presentation: a revealing talk on optical deceit; an illustrated lecture on a legendary hoax; and a thought-provoking display of telepathy. This event is sold out, but if you didn’t get a ticket (£5) then just stay tuned and look out for the next one. Shhh it’s a secret, but now you know…

Marchmont Cresc/Warrender Park Road – again not sure what this switch-on entails, some neighborhoods have big celebrations and some smaller… take your chances and you can always hit the pub for mulled wine, or beer, or hot chocolate!
