There is still a week left if you would like your web or mobile-based startup to apply to Springboard London, a start-up accelerator programme that offers seed capital, office space, a community of entrepreneurs as well as introductions to investors and mentors.

For 13 weeks you will be put through your paces whilst receiving intensive mentoring and business support.  The programme will culminate in an Investor Day where you’ll get to strut your stuff in front of venture capitalists and angel investors.

WordUp Glasgow 2011

On Saturday 4 February the Institution of Engineering and Technology in Glasgow will host Paid On Results WordUp Glasgow 2012, a one day un-conference for Scotland’s best WordPress designers and developers, based on the world renowned WordCamp model.

There are nine slots for attendees to present along whatever theme they like (as long as it involves WordPress) and take questions from the floor.

This is the second in a series of planned one-day events, following on from Blacknight WordUp Edinburgh 2011, which will take place across Scotland in the next 12 months.

Yesterday marked the first day of Freshers Week at Edinburgh Uni (just in case you were wondering what the influx of people were). Of course, new term means a new series of talks from Edinburgh’s own Entrepreneurship club (E-Club).

This year, I’m particularly pleased to see E-Club teaming up with MBM Commercial to produce a series of talks by local entrepreneurs about their success story. The series kicks off with Chris Tiso from Tiso Clothing, followed by Dr Aydin Kurt-Elli, CEO of Lumison.

E-Club events are free to attend but you are recommended to register beforehand. Events are held at the Business School just off Buccleuch Place, Edinburgh.

Local mobile group, MoMoEdinburgh is co-hosting an event with the Vodafone Smart Accessibility Foundation and ICT KTN to create an unique event to inspire local apps developers and entrepreneurs to make useful apps for people with impairments.

You might be interested to know that the first time Eric Ries of Lean Startup and David Heinemeier Hansson engaged in debate was actually in London last year. Or that, at the very same time and place, several conversations were starting between designers and entrepreneurs, laying the foundations for the Lean UX movement we’re seeing grow today.   And the producer of Business Model Generation, who is the CEO of Business Models Inc., was there too, creating the first connections between Business Model Generation and Customer Development – which is why you see “business model canvasses” being used so often as a startup tool today. This was all at an event called Leancamp.
