You may know UXPA Scotland already. You may never have heard of us. Next year we want to look a little further, a little wider. We want to run a programme of talks that better represent the diverse roles and specialisms that live around the UX space.

Maybe you already have a presentation and you’d like to try it with a new group of people? Maybe you’re writing one for another event and would like to trial it first? Maybe you just have an itch to scratch and would like to throw some ideas around with a group of interested people.

Sound like something you might be interested in? Give me a shout via @ryansackett or rmsackett@gmail.com

Outside of the startup sphere, another industry facing similar issues/problems around getting traction and growth is the indie games industry.

After quite a while of gaming companies not talking to each other – there’s finally a ‘Chatham House’ style meetup for the gaming startups in Scotland (that is outside of Dundee!)

The Glasgow Mobile Games Breakfast is a monthly meetup for people in companies being hosted at the WeeWorld offices in Glasgow. It aims to tackle issues such as marketing, growth, analytics for anyone working in Mobile  and Gaming (pref both).

The next Glasgow Mobile Games Breakfast on 19th Oct at the WeeWorld offices at 19 Blythswood Square at 8.30am (yes, I know, early doors).

Entry/RSVP to Celia Francis at celia at weeworld.com.

ProductTankOver the past 18 months, there’s been more and more talk about the issue of Product Management and how we can get a better understanding of the product management process inside the startup community north of the border.

As of this morning (hot off the press!) the first Product Tank has been announced for Edinburgh on 23rd Oct.

Skyscanner are very kindly hosting the event at their new offices on Quartermile – not far from the Meadows.

The event will be a meetup, alongside one or two speakers (these are still to be confirmed!)

Rachel Evatt over at Skyscanner has been driving the event, and more details will be released soon. In the meantime, add this to your calendar (like, now!)

Designers, developers and marketing professionals are invited to attend the first Startup Weekend (SW) event to come to Edinburgh!

Following a successful SW event in Glasgow earlier this year, enthusiastic calls were made for the same to take place in Edinburgh; and the European coordinator of SW contacted us at StartupCafe to see if we’d be interested in organising the first Edin event.

Over the last couple of months, past SW participants Richard, Kate Ho and I have been busy putting the organisational infrastructure in place and are pleased to see things shaping up quite nicely.  The event will be held 16th – 18th Nov 2012. Continue Reading »

Join in this unique opportunity to discuss lean product management with Chris Dolezalek. A leading proponent of the ‘Lean’ movement, Chris Dolezalek, is now Senior Director of Engineering with IMVU, the online social community with over 50 million users.  Chris ‘walks the talk’ on lean, harnessing the disciplines of continuous innovation in the software engineering function to shorten product development cycles dramatically.

spent most of his career in ‘the Valley’ in roles from Director of Product Management  to VP, Engineering working also with Intuit, Informix and BroadVision which he helped lead to from pre-IPO to the fastest growing software company on NASDAQ before taking some time off to teach at Elementary Schools in the Bay area. He was lured back to the industry by Intuit to lead internal, agile startup efforts.

ScotlandIS is hosting the event and it’ll be free to Scotland IS members, cost £25+vat for startups and £45+vat for non-members and non-startups. See http://www.scotlandis.com/events/event-details/Masterclass_with_Chris_Dolazalek for more details
