Given that I share the same office as Launch48 all I’ve heard for the last 8 1/2 months is ‘Inspire’ ‘venue’ ‘sponsors’ ‘speakers’ ‘ticket sales’ etc etc.  So I for one am irrepressibly enthused that the conference is finally here.

The next two days will see the StartupCafe team soak up lessons and thoughts shared by inspirational speakers from the world of technology, creativity and entrepreneurship.

Tomorrow Soundcloud will be talking about un-muting the web, TweetMeme will ask ‘What is Big Data?’ and Wolfram Research will discuss the coming of age of computation.  And that’s just the morning.  The full schedule can be found here.

Aside from enjoying the intellectual theatre, I hope to see some familiar faces and make some cool, funny, new acquaintances.  I would encourage quirky folk to find me and say hello.  If you don’t fall into that category, (more…)

There’s a wonderful conference on in London this June, and with an impressive lineup of tech & startup speakers I dare say the Inspire Conference is worth a trip across the border! Tickets are an investment at £299 +VAT (or £149 +VAT for students!), so I’m sorry it’s not a free event, but I’d encourage you to have a look and see if the connections and experience may be worth your while.

Running 7th-8th June, the Inspire Conference is brought to you by the folks that created Launch48, so we’ve been very impressed with them before. You can have a sneak peak at the speakers so far – including Michael Birch (founder of Bebo) and Alex Breuer (design editor of The Times) – and I’ve included more details from the conference team below.

Note the “early bird” price lasts until this Monday 28th Feb, so if you’re going to book eventually, the earlier the better deal you’ll get. Are you eager to go, but can’t possibly afford a ticket? *Please comment below if so!* We are putting out a call for help to Informatics Ventures, Launch.ed, and SIE in case one of them is able to help subsidise some Scottish entrepreneurs who consider anything beyond Tesco Value noodles to be a splurge. We hear ya!! Make sure you comment below or email me jess [at] startupcafe.co.uk if a subsidy would make a real difference – I can’t promise anything, but I promise to ask! More details: (more…)

On Thursday, half of the Startup Cafe team were en route to London to attend the Launch 48 showcase. Jess, Hilary and I were heading down to do general networking with the London startup crowd. Joining us were Sam Collins from Bloop; Stuart Roebuck from ProInnovate and Alex Cole from Peekabu.

I thought that since we were in the same place, it would be a perfect time for an update on how the companies are doing …

Jess Williamson (TenBu Technologies):. “We’ve launched a new generation of the product and have secured distribution partners in 8 countries. We’re also working hard in getting into the U.S. Our new product got write-ups in Engadget and Gadling last week which was really exciting! Also, we got asked for a nio to guard the enigma machine, so hopefully we can keep Britain’s secret safe in the 21st Century!”
