Mobile life - gotta love itI could hardly sleep at night knowing there was a meetup I’d never been to, and I’m happy to report that my visit to Mobile Monday (MoMo) on 3rd Aug was a delightful and enlightening experience. For those of you still out of the loop, MoMo Edinburgh is a new group for anyone interested in the mobile scene, and folks meet monthly for lunch in Centotre to discuss the latest happenings. Turns out they’re a lot of fun!

It was a very friendly and welcoming bunch, and the cozy size (6 of us on this occasion, as holiday appeared to be a priority for others) made it easy to have group discussions. I was brought up to speed on Blyk, the mobile phone company that offered free minutes/texts to the youth market Continue Reading »

Fraser and his super fruitsOur entertainment this week comes from jam boy Fraser Doherty, a humourous and inspiring entrepreneur with jam in Waitrose, ASDA, Tesco, my fridge, and beyond. Thanks to him, I woke up craving rhubarb & ginger this morning and tend to put jam on any snack possible.

We met Fraser back in Feb ’08 when he joined us as a judge for the Apprentice Edinburgh competition run by iCUE (along with last week’s interviewee Hamish coincidentally), but luckily we didn’t ask him about any regrets!  Fraser runs loads of tea parties for lonely elderly folks as well, which are always a hoot, and volunteers are being lined up for a big bash on 13th August if you’re in the mood. Is this what we're teaching ourselves? The harder you fall, the better the story, and it seems that tales of failure are a very strong social currency at the moment. With outlets like fmylife, failblog or #epicfail to broadcast your lowest moments, the online world is embracing failure and extrapolating the entertainment value from misery, embarrassment, and devastation.
