On Nov 26-28th, Launch48 will be holding a mobile and tablet based entrepreneurial event that will allow you the opportunity to pitch a business idea and build up a business in 48hrs!

There’s a new site in town to help startups get spotted, and we’re delighted to see The Student Market showcase products and services from student entrepreneurs. The project has been pioneered by one of our favourite student groups iCUE Business & Entrepreneurial Society, and we’re excited to go exhibit and support their launch event tomorrow night – everyone is welcome, join us and check out the student startup scene!

Happy Global Entrepreneurship Week everybody! Yes, 15th-21st of November is Global Entrepreneurship Week – “Make a job, Don’t take a job!” As it happens, there are lots of events to celebrate 🙂

Tuesday 16th November: Launch Lab – The Future, 9am at RenRoc (89-91 Montgomery)

The Launch Lab is a weekly session geared toward anyone who owns or is starting their own business. A highly varied group of energetic, intelligent people gather to exchange ideas, share critiques and encouragement, and feed each others’ vitality. The organiser of this group has just been hired (yay!) and therefore tomorrow’s event will be networking and also discussing the future and how we can take Launch Lab further by evening/future events.

Hugging sales staff

“Businesses don’t fail because of lack of funding; they fail because of lack of hope.  Your first few sales will give you hope”  said Julian Lloyd Evans (Dennis Publishing) at the last London Launch48 Conference (themed Top Tips for Entrepreneurs).

Wednesday 10th November: Edinburgh Tech Meetup, 6:30pm at Appleton Tower 8th Floor

A monthly gathering of folks interested in tech, from startups to developers to innocent bystanders. This month’s speakers include Jonathan Riddell – Introduction to Qt, Tony Lucas – Infrastructure as a Service, and Tane Piper – NodeJS + ExpressJS. There’s always a lot to learn, new people to meet, and oh yeah – free beer and pizza! It’s all free and open to anyone, just turn up on the 8th Floor.

Thursday 11th November: E-Club Heidi Roizen: Wow, an Inspiration! 6-8pm, Business School Auditorium

An evening of drinks, networking, and Q&A with one of Silicon Valley’s most impressive businesswomen! Heidi co-founded T/Maker Company. (an early personal computer software company) in 1983, where she served as CEO from inception through to its acquisition by Deluxe Corporation in 1994. In 1996 Heidi joined Apple as Vice President of Worldwide Developer Relations. From there, Heidi entered the venture capital world serving as a Managing Director of Mobius Venture Capital from 1999 to 2007. Today Heidi splits her time between her entrepreneurial endeavour, SkinnySongs and board service in the public, private and nonprofit sectors. Oh my where has the time gone?! So many events, so little time and energy to blog them, sorry for our silence and delay in returning to the writing world. It’s been anything but quiet. A fabulous weekend at Launch48, so thanks very much to all who put blood/sweat/tears/fun into the new companies, the outcome was really incredible and we’ll try to do that justice shortly.
